Getting Here

Most visitors fly into Pisa’s Galileo Galilei airport. Jet 2, Ryanair, EasyJet and BA have flights from all parts of the UK and Eire. A free shuttle bus takes you to the car rental desks in a couple of minutes. The airport is 30 seconds off the Fi-Pi-Li (Firenze-Pisa-Livorno motorway). Ten minutes along the motorway, turn right and in another 45 minutes you’re here. Tuscan Skies Apartment is about 4km northwest from Saline along the SR439.
Florence has a small airport, served by Meridiana and BA from the London airports. It’s a 75-minute drive either by motorway and main road or a bit slower – but more attractive - across country.
Rome’s two airports are Fiumicino to the West of the city and Ciampino to the South-East. Wide range of carriers. From either airport, there’s a drive round the GRA (Rome’s M25) and then a 3 hour trip up through the wonderful countryside of Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany via Orvieto and Siena. Tip: in many filling stations you have to use pre-pay machines on Sundays.
To find low-cost flights, search on www.flycheapo.com Most carriers offer good reductions on car hire. Sites such as www.comparecarhire.co.uk and www.arguscarhire.com are good for comparing prices. It’s not always the best bet to go with the cheapest agency.
The nearest rail connections are Poggibonsi and Pontedera. Both are 30 minutes drive from Le Volpaie.
